NARAL Pro-Choice America will release a new video advertisement today attacking Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain's (Ariz.) position on abortion rights and Roe v. Wade, the Boston Globe's "Political Intelligence" reports. The advertisement will be sent to 500,000 advocates Wednesday evening to coincide with the final presidential debate. According to the Globe, the video includes clips of McCain stating his opposition to abortion rights in previous debates and interviews. The video states, "John McCain will fight to outlaw your right to choose. What are you willing to fight for?" It closes by saying that Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) is the "only choice who will fight to protect yours."

Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, in a statement said, "Not only does McCain's record show that he's voted against a woman's right to choose 125 times, but this video allows voters to hear the truth right from the candidate's mouth." McCain's campaign Web site calls Roe a "flawed decision that must be overturned." McCain on the site promises to nominate Supreme Court justices who "understand that courts should not be in the business of legislating from the bench," adding that overturning Roe would restore
"[c]onstitutional balance" by "returning the abortion decision to individual states." The McCain site also notes that the pro-life movement has "done tremendous work in building and reinforcing the infrastructure of civil society by strengthening faith-based, community, and neighborhood organizations" that "can help build the consensus necessary to end abortion at the state level" (Rhee, "Political Intelligence," Boston Globe, 10/14).
