Following feedback from members of the public and from member pharmacies the NPA and Allergy UK have changed the business model for the Allergy Screening Service.

Members have reported that patients enquiring about allergy screening at pharmacies are keen to be tested and unwilling to accept that a test is unnecessary. Allergy UK is receiving similar feedback.

It has therefore been agreed that a package to include the screen AND test should be offered initially. The complete screen and test option will be priced at £60. If, after the initial screening consultation, the pharmacist finds that a test is not necessary and the patient agrees to forgo a test the fee will be reduced to £35.

NPA Sales has also sourced IgE mediated allergy tests at exceptionally competitive prices - enabling members offering the allergy screening service to reduce their costs.

Raj Nutan, NPA Head of Business Development comments: "Feedback from customers and members has been invaluable in helping us to refine the service offering. Feedback has been very positive, a typical example is: "My son had a screening. I received the information Allergy UK sent and found it really helpful, my son now feels a lot better. The pharmacist was really good and very informative and I have been back since to discuss his medication with the pharmacist. I would recommend to others and would definitely use the service again."

Jules Payne, Deputy Chief Executive at AUK comments: "It became apparent that people were not absolutely clear what was included within the price and also felt that a test should be included anyway. As a result the service is now more closely aligned with the test."
