An Inconvenient Truth - The Provision Of Public Toilets - Unison Response, UK
Main Category: Public HealthArticle Date: 22 Oct 2008 - 6:00 PDT
UNISON, the UK's largest public sector union, is today (22 October) calling on local councils to increase the provision of public toilets, following a report published by the House of Commons into the Provision of Public Toilets*.
Heather Wakefield, UNISON Head of Local Government, said:
"If we all want to live in cleaner communities, then we need to get behind a campaign for better provision of public toilets. It is an inconvenient truth that there are shocking differences between the number of toilets in each local authority, and facilities are especially bad for women with children, and for disabled people.
"UNISON would also like to see facilities regularly cleaned and patrolled to make sure they are hygienic and safe for people to use."
* The report is called The Provision of Public Toilets
