In an attempt to help reduce the spread of HIV, residents of Kabala, Sierra Leone, received training on the use of both male and female condoms during a one-day information session held by the Matei multipurpose cooperative society and Voice of Women, the Concord Times/AllAfrica.com reports. According to UNAIDS, the Koinadugu district, where Kabala is located, has the highest HIV prevalence in Sierra Leone at 3%.

Mamusu Kamara, director of MATCOPS, said that because Koinadugu has the highest HIV prevalence in the country, residents should undergo HIV testing. "It is time for people in Kabala to come out in large numbers to know their HIV/AIDS status," Kamara said, adding, "If people know their status and get the appropriate treatment, they can live long and lead productive lives." Funding for the session was provided by the Ministry of Health and the United Nations Population Fund (Condeh, Concord Times/AllAfrica.com, 10/23).
