The European BioAlpine Convention 2008, an international event organised by the trinational Transalpine Biocluster - Rhône-Alpes (France), Piemonte (Italy) and Western Switzerland -will bring together researchers and professionals from academia and industry in order to present and discuss the most recent findings in the fields of Bioinformatics and Proteomics.

A wide range of new and exciting developments in the technology and application of proteomics have been unveiling the understanding of protein function and dysfunction. On the other hand, the young and rapidly emerging field of bioinformatics have been generating new algorithms and tools to handle and analyse proteomics and other biological data sets, while accelerating the knowledge discovery process.

These two fields cannot be dissociated anymore and together they provide the platform for further method developments, for the understanding of the role of molecules in cellular processes and for the discovery of new diagnostic biomarkers and drug targets.

The EBAC 2008 event is the opportunity to be updated on the state-of-the-art of these two complementary fields, to discuss new projects, to build synergies and exchange best practices.

In order to give a clear picture of the directions of proteomics and bioinformatics research in academic and industrial environments, the presentations by representative speakers of the transalpine region will address the following topics:

a. Bioinformatics for proteomics data
b. Bioinformatics for genomics and transcriptomics data
c. Beyond discovery in proteomics
d. Translational medicine with proteomics

The convention will focus on the exchange between academia and industry partners and has been planned to facilitate interactions through the satellite events such as the Partnering Event, the SPS training initiative wrap-up session, the conference talks and the poster session. ----------------------------
