The World Health Organization (WHO) is closely monitoring the escalating situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo near Goma, where violence in recent months has displaced an estimated 200 000 people.
Hundreds of people have been fleeing insecurity in recent days, including into neighbouring Uganda and Sudan.
Beyond conflict-linked health concerns, other risks include confirmed cases of cholera and measles. WHO has medicines and staff in country ready to send to the affected area.
