The NMC is reforming its governance structures in order to ensure that effective decisions are made more efficiently and that the committees along with the Council are more accountable.

The NMC is committed to involving members of the public who can help us develop meaningful and relevant standards, guidance and policies that support nurses and midwives in delivering safe and effective care.

We are currently recruiting for members of the Midwifery Committee and the Appointments Board with other roles becoming available in the next few months. The appointments will be made based on competencies and are open to anyone who feels they possess the qualities and skills that are essential to furthering the work of the NMC in these areas.

We are looking for people from a range of backgrounds whose skills and expertise could be transferred to healthcare regulation. These qualities include being able to demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to contribute to strategic issues by applying sound judgement to reach solutions.

We need people who can absorb complex information quickly and who can communicate effectively.

These qualities can be found in people from all backgrounds, from the community midwife or ward nurse to the director of an international company or a leader in the community and aren't restricted to those in management or with a background in healthcare.

We would encourage anyone with a genuine interest in healthcare to reflect on their skills and area of expertise to see how they can make a difference to the nursing and midwifery professions and the people in their care.
