SleepQuest has always followed the essence of its name by seeking to help those who suffer from undiagnosed and unexplained health problems related to lack of sleep.

SleepQuest frequently visits local organizations to discuss the importance of identifying and treating sleep disorders. Sleep is a cornerstone of good health that is often overlooked as a wellness factor. Studies done by the National Commission on Sleep Disorders indicate that nearly half of all Americans have difficulty sleeping.

At the same time, the consequences of daytime sleepiness are frequently in the news. SleepQuest is often invited to speak at large corporations, such as UPS and Amgen, to explain the impact poor sleep can have on employee productivity and workplace safety. There are indications that the Challenger disaster, the Chernobyl nuclear reactor meltdown, and the Exxon Valdez oil spill can all be partly linked to people suffering from the most common undiagnosed sleep disorder, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), which is estimated to disrupt the healthy sleep of 30 million Americans.

SleepQuest CEO Robert Koenigsberg has lobbied in Washington for Medicare coverage of home sleep testing and in Sacramento for better sleep technician certification. "We are constantly working to make it easier for sleep apnea sufferers to receive good quality testing and treatment," he says. "We helped bring about the recent government Medicare policy changes which now allow home sleep tests to serve as the basis for the diagnosis of OSA. Many insurers follow Medicare's policies, meaning even more potential patients will now have coverage."

SleepQuest points out advantages of home sleep testing:

-- Comfort. Better to test in the familiarity and quiet of your own home.

-- Accuracy. More likely to reflect your true condition.

-- Proximity. Eliminates travel to sleep center.

-- Personal physician stays involved in treatment. Not pushed to unfamiliar sleep lab affiliates.

-- Value. Total cost is approximately one-fourth of a sleep lab.

"For the past 14 years, SleepQuest has been a champion of those suffering from OSA," Koenigsberg adds." We provide home sleep testing services as a valid and effective alternative to sleep labs. Now more people than ever may be able to take advantage of improved home sleep studies."
