Speaking ahead of the official ban on junk food in vending machines in Welsh Hospitals coming into force (Saturday), Welsh Lib Dem Health Spokesperson, Jenny Randerson AM said:
"Of course anything that improves nutrition is a good thing but I fear that this will have minimal effect. The key priority needs to be the meals served to in-patients and ensuring that they are nutritious enough to aid recovery, not hinder it."
"I am actually quite concerned that removing junk food from vending machines could just penalise stressed out families of patients who really need a bar of chocolate to keep their energy and spirits up."
"The occasional chocolate bar will not hurt anyone, it is the food culture that needs addressing, whether it be in hospitals, schools or at home."
