SNM invites scientific investigators to submit abstracts to present their research at the society's 56th Annual Meeting - the world's largest event dedicated to molecular imaging and nuclear medicine - June 13-17, 2009, in Toronto, Canada.

"The emerging field of molecular imaging is vital and state-of-the-art," said SNM President Robert Atcher, Ph.D., M.B.A., who represents the society's more than 17,000 molecular imaging and nuclear medicine professionals. "At SNM's Annual Meeting, researchers from around the world come together to present the most leading-edge research in the field today - research that will help make personalized medicine a reality."

"This meeting offers researchers the ideal opportunity to present their work at an international forum of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging professionals," explained Frederic H. Fahey, D.Sc., chair of SNM's Scientific Program Committee and director of nuclear medicine/PET physics at Children's Hospital, Boston, Mass. "Not only will presenting authors be able to highlight their work - they will also be able to hear about other exciting research being performed in molecular imaging around the world," Fahey added. More than 1,800 abstracts will be presented from authors in 80 countries during the five-day event.

The SNM scientific abstracts program encompasses nine tracks: cardiovascular, neuroscience, oncology - basic, oncology - clinical diagnosis, general clinical specialties, instrumentation and data analysis, radiopharmaceutical chemistry, multimodality and nonradioactive molecular imaging. Additionally, the meeting offers InfoSNM computer presentations, educational exhibits and technologist and technologist student presentations. Medical students, fellows and young physicians (less than three years out of training) are encouraged to submit their work for the prestigious Young Investigator and Young Professional Committee Awards and to apply for abstract-related travel awards upon notification of abstract acceptance in March 2009. Interested authors may submit abstracts demonstrating the economic value of molecular imaging for patient management in consideration for the Siemens Award for Excellence in Practice-Based Research.

Online abstract submission for 2009 SNM Annual Meeting begins Nov. 3, 2008, and is open through Jan. 13, 2009. For more information, visit http://www.snm.org/abstracts.

About SNM

SNM is an international scientific and medical organization dedicated to raising public awareness about what molecular imaging is and how it can help provide patients with the best health care possible. SNM members specialize in molecular imaging, a vital element of today's medical practice that adds an additional dimension to diagnosis, changing the way common and devastating diseases are understood and treated.

SNM's more than 17,000 members set the standard for molecular imaging and nuclear medicine practice by creating guidelines, sharing information through journals and meetings and leading advocacy on key issues that affect molecular imaging and therapy research and practice.
