When a surgical procedure fails and revision surgery is indicated, the patient needs a surgeon who is prepared. "Revision Surgery in Otolaryngology", published by Thieme, is the first time an approach to all revision cases in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery and facial plastic surgery is available in a single book. During the course of researching and writing this new text, Editor Dr. David R. Edelstein, clinical professor of otorhinolaryngology at Cornell University, was amazed at how little information was available on the topic.
"All otolaryngologists - head and neck surgeons and facial plastic surgeons need this text on their shelves to help them think about patients who have had unsuccessful primary surgery. This book gives the practicing physician a vocabulary to discuss these cases and to communicate more effectively with their patients," states Dr. Edelstein.
This book includes more than 450 illustrations and diagrams, such as pre- and postoperative photos that clearly demonstrate surgical results. Every chapter has a handy 'decision tree' that guides the practitioner, step-by-step, through the management process. Recommendations on how to address scarring and physiological differences, caused by prior surgeries, round out the text.
Revision Surgery in Otolaryngology covers all the most common problems encountered during revision surgery. Until now, there was no text available that compared initial cases with more complex revision cases. This new book is an essential reference for both experienced and beginning otolaryngologists, as well as other specialists in areas such as facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. This book is also an excellent learning tool because it reveals the mistakes that are made in primary surgery, and how best to avoid those mistakes -obviating the need for revision surgery in the first place.
