MONTEREY, CA, USA (UroToday.com) - Dr. Saad Juma presented his experience in 234 patients who had completed a 12 to 26 month (mean 23.3) questionnaire follow up after placement of an Aris™ transobuturator sling. The group reported resolution of SUI in 90.61% of the patients, of urge incontinence in 61.81%, and only 2.51% (n=2) with de novo urgency symptoms.

Each of the questionnaires used in the study, the Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6), the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire (IIQ-7), and the Global Symptom Index, showed statistically significant improvements from pre- to post-operative assessment.

Complications were minimal and included vaginal tape extrusion in 1.3% (n=3), urinary tract infection in 0.9% (n=2), and necessity for tape release for treatment of BOO in 0.9% (n=2).

Presented by Saad Juma, MD, at the 84th Annual Meeting of the AUA - Western Section - October 26 - 30, 2008 - Monterey, California

Reported by Alvaro Lucioni, MD, Virginia Mason Medical Center, Seattle, WA.
