UK - Paul Streets, chief executive, Health Development Agency said: 'We welcome announcement that the government aims to address the problem of obesity among our children by developing a programme so that every school will become a healthy one.

'The recognition by the education secretary of the continued important work and achievements of the National Healthy School Standard (NHSS) is also welcomed.

'The HDA manages the NHSS on behalf of the Department of Health and Department for Education and Skills and our evidence has shown that both parents and schools have a role to play in preventing and tackling obesity. The NHSS brings together schools and local communities in order to improve the overall health of their school.'
