Safe Haven Youth Returning To Florida And Update On 5-year-old Left On November 13, Nebraska
Main Category: Pediatrics / Children's HealthArticle Date: 18 Nov 2008 - 4:00 PST
Todd Landry, director of the Division of Children and Family Services for the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Nebraska, said an 11-year-old boy is returning to Florida and the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families. The youth was left at Boys Town National Research Hospital on November 12.
"I appreciate the assistance and cooperation of the Florida Department of Children and Families so this youth can safely return to his home state," said Landry.
The Florida Department of Children and Families completed an evaluation and assessment of the situation, and Florida courts are now involved. The Douglas County Attorney agreed that it was in the child's best interest to return to Florida. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is no longer involved in this situation.
A Nebraska DHHS employee will accompany the youth on his return to Florida.
In addition, after gathering more information, DHHS has determined that the 5-year-old boy left at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha on November 13 was from Douglas County, not Sarpy County.
