Elsevier Announces Launch Of PM&R In Partnership With The American Academy Of Physical Medicine And Rehabilitation

Elsevier, a world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, is pleased to announce the January 2009 launch of a new medical journal in partnership with the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation -- PM&R, The journal of injury, function and rehabilitation (http://www.pmrjournal.org).

Under the guidance of Editor-in-Chief Stuart M. Weinstein, MD, Clinical Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle, and an internationally renowned Editorial Board, this monthly, peer-reviewed, scholarly publication has a clinical focus, presenting a balance of topics matching the practice needs of the Academy membership and other related medical disciplines, as well as a wider international readership. The "Purple Journal" (as it will be colloquially branded) is designed to advance education and impact the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation through the timely delivery of clinically relevant and evidence-based research and review information. Coverage includes acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders and pain, neurologic conditions involving the central and peripheral nervous systems, rehabilitation of impairments associated with disabilities in adults and children, and neurophysiology and electrodiagnosis.

The various sections of PM&R highlight original research including clinical trials and outcomes studies, clinically relevant translational science, comprehensive and focused review articles, case presentations, point/counterpoint discussions and commentary, ethical legal topics, practice management updates, topical study guides, editorial and opinion pieces, clinical pearls, emerging issues and letters to the editor. Continuing Medical Education opportunities for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit are also offered.

The contributing authors and readership of PM&R embody the diversity of groups for whom this journal was developed. These include clinicians and clinical researchers in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation, in other medical specialties (such as neurology, rheumatology, geriatrics and spinal surgery) and practitioners in related disciplines (such as physical and occupational therapy, speech and language pathology and clinical psychology). PM&R will serve as a vehicle to enhance the dissemination of medical knowledge that will benefit people with acute and chronic impairments and disabilities.
