BRIT Systems introduces BRIT Speak, a stand-alone dictation, transcription, report distribution and optional voice recognition solution that uses the latest Web technologies. BRIT Speak provides real-time workflow across a virtual environment with minimal user intervention and is available with the company's Roentgen RIS and Roentgen Works remote reading solution.

As a modular solution, facilities can select just the components required for local workflows, such as the Voice Dictation Module or the Voice Recognition Module. The former manages the workflow utilizing industry standard sound files, making them accessible to a transcriptionist over the web. Using simple management tools, all patient information can be annonymized at the radiologist or transcriptionist's view of the data to preserve patient privacy. The Voice Recognition Module provides direct integration with Dragon Version 10 and the Dragon Radiologist's Vocabulary, both included in the module.

Users select studies from the BRIT Speak worklist or via integration to a DICOM workstation utilizing a published API. The report is embedded into Microsoft Word for a highly evolved editing environment and is created by using one or more combinations of macros or canned reports based on body region or modality, voice dictation, voice recognition and typing.

"BRIT Speak represents the final component for a complete end-to-end workflow solution with BRIT's existing products," says Shelly Fisher, President, BRIT Systems. "We've integrated the Dragon Speech Engine into our newly-developed voice recognition module so the solution can remain on the leading-edge of voice technology improvements."

According to Fisher, integrating rather than embedding a voice recognition and dictation solution allows BRIT to more rapidly provide the benefits of new versions of the Dragon Speech Engine to their customers than if the engine was embedded. "The technology improves by leaps and bounds with each new release and so we are able to get those improvements to our customers rapidly versus using other toolkits," Fisher adds.
