Students Invited To London Lecture - The British Psychological Society

The impact of size zero media ideals on body image is just one of the fascinating topics up for discussion by local students at The British Psychological Society's upcoming student lecture on Tuesday 9 December 2008.

Students from London and beyond are invited to hear from some of the UK's top psychologists at the event, which is taking place at Kensington Town Hall from 10am on 9 December 2008.

Dr Helga Dittmar from the University of Sussex will present her studies on body dissatisfaction, and will examine whether unrealistic body ideals in the media contribute to this problem.

Well-known TV star, clinical psychologist Dr Tanya Byron, will also speak at the conference, giving the students a glimpse into the world of the life of a psychologist in the media.

Dr Monica Whitty from Nottingham Trent University will discuss her research into the strategies people use to attract others on online dating sites. And Professor Adrian North from Heriot Watt University will question whether pop music is bad for young people, and explores how rebellious and anti-social messages in pop music affect young listeners.

In the final talk, from Dr Sandi Mann from the University of Central Lancashire will feature current research investigating boredom in the classroom.
