The Center for Medicare Advocacy, the nation's most experienced Medicare advocacy organization, today released a report detailing specific methods for keeping Medicare a vital, efficient and cost-effective public program.
"Medicare has served our country well for decades as a balanced, public-private partnership," says Judith Stein, executive director of the Center for Medicare Advocacy, "but there are important areas that must be addressed to preserve and enhance the program - for both beneficiaries and taxpayers."
The Center's report, Options for Real Medicare Reform, offers specific suggestions for improving the program, including:
- Providing better coverage for beneficiaries with chronic conditions;
- Restoring Medicare's fair public/private balance;
- Adding a prescription drug benefit to traditional Medicare.
"The recommendations in Options for Real Medicare Reform," says Ms. Stein, "would go a long way toward returning the focus of Medicare to the people for whom it was created, as well as toward preserving Medicare's future as an effective and economically sound program."
