The Youth Rehabilitation and Treatment Center at Geneva (YRTC-G) received a three-year reaccreditation this month from the national Commission on Accreditation for Corrections, according to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

The YRTC-Geneva is a juvenile facility for girls up to age 19 and is part of the Office of Juvenile Services in the DHHS Division of Children and Family Services.

"This reaccreditation confirms that we're meeting the national standards as we serve these youth," said Todd Landry, director of the Division of Children and Family Services. "I'm very proud that our facility complied with 100% of the mandatory standards, and 99% of the voluntary standards. That's essentially an A+ report card."

The Commission uses national American Correctional Association (ACA) standards to ensure facilities like the YRTC-Geneva provide nationally-accepted programs and services to their youth.

"As we move forward, we'll be focusing on continuous improvement and providing increased treatment options for these youth," Landry said.

The Commission on Accreditation for Corrections complimented YRTC-G staff for the professional level of operation and their success in completing the reaccreditation process.

YRTC-G administrator Dan Scarborough said that receiving this three-year reaccreditation award does not signal the end of the YRTC-Geneva's involvement in the accreditation process. The facility will work to maintain continuous compliance with the standards.

The standards emphasize best practices in the areas of general administration, fiscal management, personnel, staff training and development, records, physical plant, security, safety and emergency procedures, due process, juvenile rights, and treatment/juvenile services.
