The paper reports the findings of a novel study linking researchers in Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol (a unique department in the UK) with those in Clinical Epilepsy at King's College London.

The study demonstrates how a mathematical description of the human Electroencephalogram (EEG) - a measure of the aggregated electrical activity of neurons in the human cortex - can be used to explain transitions in observed activity between healthy periods and seizure states.
