Elsevier, world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, is pleased to announce the July 2009 launch of a new peer-reviewed medical journal in partnership with the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), Osteopathic Family Physician.

Osteopathic Family Physician, Official Journal of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, is designed to deliver information that helps osteopathic family physicians care for their patients and improve their practices. Reflecting the interests of Association members and other health professionals, the journal's content will cover such diverse topics as preventive medicine, managed care, osteopathic principles and practices, pain management, public health, medical education and practice management.

Providing a forum for careful systematic reviews of primary care, Osteopathic Family Physician's particular emphases will include an active forum for the presentation of family medicine research in diverse settings, involving medical students, residents, fellows and practicing professionals.

ACOFP's President, Jan D. Zieren, DO, MPH, FACOFP dist, noted that, "At a time when our members are facing constant and extreme change in the U.S. Healthcare System, Osteopathic Family Physician will deliver resources that will contribute to enhanced patient care and support successful practice management." As the official journal of the ACOFP, the journal will publish policy statements, communications from the Board of Governors and notices of important Committee and Special Interest Group projects. "It is our intention that the journal will help our membership stay informed about and better understand the activities in which ACOFP is involved on their behalf," Dr. Zieren continued.

An eminent Editorial Board will be led by noted clinician, researcher and educator, Jay H. Shubrook Jr., DO, FACOFP, Director, Diabetes Fellowship, Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Associate Director of Family Practice Residency, O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens, Ohio. "We are working to have Osteopathic Family Physician become a publication that represents the best of osteopathic family medicine, including educational initiatives, original research and important advances in practice management," commented Dr. Shubrook. "Our further hope is that it would be viewed as an authoritative resource by those outside the profession who want to better understand the breadth and scope of osteopathic family medicine."

Joining Editor-in-Chief Shubrook is Associate Editor Joel A. Kase, DO, MPH, Director of Medical Education, Department of Graduate Medical Education, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, Biddeford, Maine, and Emergency Physician at Maine General Medical Center, Waterville, Maine. Dr. Kase is currently Editor of the Association's newsletter, Osteopathic Family Physician News, and former chair of the ACOFP Editorial Committee.

Elsevier Publishing Director Chris Baumle commented, "We welcome the opportunity to partner with a dynamic group like ACOFP and envision that Osteopathic Family Physician will become an increasingly important forum for information exchange about a wide range of topics in the field."
