"Stimulating the Adoption of Health Information Technology," New England Journal of Medicine: In the perspective, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology David Blumenthal discusses the health IT provisions of the federal economic stimulus package -- collectively called HITECH in the law. He also discusses the challenges in implementing and maintaining health IT systems. Blumenthal says, "It is now up to the government and the nation's health care professionals and facilities to turn this opportunity into real improvements in the health and health care of Americans" (Blumenthal, NEJM, 4/9).
