The following statement may be attributed to Amy Comstock Rick, president, Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research:

"We are pleased that the National Institutes of Health has taken the next step in the process of creating federal guidelines to remove restrictions on embryonic stem cell research. While many sources of embryos provide great promise, today's draft guidelines that would allow federal funding for research using excess embryos from the in vitro fertilization process bring us just that much closer to research leading to better treatments and cures for so many devastating diseases and disorders. We look forward to working with the CAMR membership in providing constructive and supportive comments to NIH as part of this process."

The Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR) is the nation's leading bipartisan pro-cures coalition. Comprised of more than 100 nationally recognized patient organizations, universities, scientific societies, and foundations, CAMR's advocacy and education outreach focuses on developing better treatments and cures for individuals with life-threatening illnesses and disorders.
