Eklin Medical Systems, a leading supplier of digital radiography (DR), ultrasound, PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications Systems) and practice management software (VIA(R)), will showcase its new line up of ultrasound systems, VIA and RapidStudy(TM) DR imaging solutions at the annual Central Veterinary Conference East being held in Baltimore April 25-27, 2009. This includes the CCD-based, RapidStudy CDx Express, Elite and Enterprise product line. The affordable, high quality systems provide excellent radiographs in seconds and can be retrofitted into most existing x-ray tables, or included with the newest Eklin custom x-ray table specifically designed for digital imaging. In addition, other digital modules can be added as practice growth dictates.

"Every practice has its own set of needs for determining what type of imaging solution is the right one," said Rob Royea, vice president, worldwide sales for Eklin. "We wanted to especially focus on the needs of smaller practices that make up the majority of veterinary care providers. With the choice of three RapidStudy CDx configurations, a practice can start at a basic level and economically add upgrades as it grows."

Just as digital cameras have made photography easier and more efficient by eliminating film, DR systems provide the veterinarian with a radiographic image that can be viewed immediately at the exam site or at a review workstation, including a high-resolution monitor, without the need for film development. DR systems also offer sophisticated image processing tools, giving the doctor much greater depth of information that can be digitally enhanced for viewing far better detail, resulting in closer scrutiny of potential areas of concern. Now, Eklin offers either flat panel or CCD (Charge Couple Device) DR solutions plus on-site and remote PACS, all based on DICOM standards.

The RapidStudy CDx is designed specifically to meet the needs of the small animal veterinary practice. As the technology advances under Eklin's guidance, additional upgrades can be added quickly and inexpensively.

"We are a three-doctor practice in southeast Wisconsin committed to providing state-of-the-art technology in support of superior patient care, yet we need economical solutions," said John Hallett, DVM, co-owner of Hallett Veterinary Hospital. "The upgradeable RapidStudy CDx allows us to both meet this goal and the needs of the future. The CDx imaging system was easily retrofitted to our existing table, resulting in a great price-to-value ratio. Our workflow has improved since we don't have to wait for films to develop which enables us to take radiographs during our normally scheduled appointments when needed. Our technicians love the new system and mastered it the day it was installed."

Featuring an advance cesium iodide scintillator design, the RapidStudy CDx includes the CDx Express, with one eFilm image review license and CD archiving capabilities; the CDx Elite, featuring five eFilm licenses, RapidPACS image storage and RapidView 2C workstation; and the CDx enterprise, also with five eFilm image review licenses, RapidView 2C workstation and RapidPACS, plus VIA Express practice management software with the multi-modality module is included. An optional RapidPACS(TM) Web Edition and one year free, offsite EklinVault(TM) image storage are also available with all RapidStudy CDx configurations.
