This latest strain of Flu - "Swine Flu" (H1N1) is closely linked to the Bird Flu (H5N1) that has been grabbing the headlines in recent years, but has been around for far longer - according to medical records. This latest bout of H1N1 Flu is described as a mix of swine flu, bird flu and human flu - with the ability to pass from human-to-human.
There is no need to panic though, as we can learn lessons from the past - especially when it comes to effective treatment of H1N1 during the Spanish Flu epidemic
During the world epidemic of 1918-19, caused by H1N1, up to 100 million people are estimated to have died. However, the evidence from the time shows that the mortality rate from sufferers who were treated homeopathically were much, much lower than those treated by conventional medical practitioners. Jayney Goddard, President of The Complementary Medical Association (The CMA) has written about this 'epidemic' and previous ones throughout history in her book "The Survivor's Guide to Bird Flu: The Complementary Medical Approach".
The book is a breath of fresh air in the current climate of concern and uncertainty about the effects of a new pandemic of Swine Flu, or Bird Flu
Jayney Goddard makes a calm, rational review of what happened then and examines the conventional and the complementary medical approaches that were used including herbal, nutritional and even homeopathic interventions. Jayney provides evidence for what worked and what didn't - and identifies the successful treatments that can still be used to treat infections like Swine Flu and Bird Flu. She examines the potential effectiveness of the treatments on offer today from conventional and complementary medicine - and provides realistic prevention and treatment options for real people. The approaches this book recommends are grounded in science and have a long history of traditional usage and success.
Goddard states: "The World Health Organisation has been anticipating a devastating flu-like illness for some years now and they believe that a pandemic is inevitable. This may be the case - and if so it is vital that we find ways to modulate (not randomly 'boost') our immune systems so that we are as resistant to life threatening flu as possible."
"A cytokine storm (an over-proliferation of a pro-inflammatory messenger hormone called TNFá which attacks our body's cells randomly) is at the heart of why these Type A influenzas can be so utterly lethal. It may be possible to modulate the immune response in order to 'dampen down' the over production of TNFá using a range of nutritional and herbal approaches."
"The anti-inflammatory approaches recommended in the book are an excellent health-manifesto for the long term as they also reduce our predisposition to chronic inflammatory diseases including diabetes Type 2, some cancers, arthritis, heart disease, and some neurological diseases including Alzheimers and Parkinsons."
Reviews:
"An important and much needed overview on the subject of bird flu and more importantly, how to protect yourself from it."
