ProtecSom of France, a specialist in solutions for allergy sufferers, has launched Texaal Cotton - a new generation of anti-dust-mite covers for mattresses, duvets and pillows. The new range is made of 100% pure cotton and is manufactured using the patented Texaal weaving process. ProtecSom will take part in the Allergy & Gluten Free Show, to be held in London from 12 to 14 June 2009 (Stand 66).

The average mattress contains two million dust mites, which produce droppings that can cause allergic reactions. For, contrary to popular belief, it is not the mites themselves that cause allergies, but rather the small 5µm particles of droppings that the mites produce. In order to eliminate the risk of allergic reactions to mite droppings, ProtecSom has developed a new generation of covers for bedding - Texaal Cotton.

The covers are made using the company's innovative Texaal weaving process, which creates fabrics with pores of less than 5µm. The entire surface of the fibre is pressed before weaving. Consequently, the fibre becomes finer and more dense. This pressed fibre allows the production of more threads per square centimetre, creating a tighter fabric with finer pores. PMI, an independent laboratory, has confirmed the excellent filtration level achieved by the Texaal covers.

Given this high filtration capacity, ProtecSom covers completely enclose the mattress, the duvet and the pillow, entirely trapping dust mites. Indeed, Texaal Cotton covers use innovative high-quality zip fasteners strengthened with a supplementary flap behind the zip, which provides additional protection against dust mites.

The ProtecSom covers are completely free of chemicals. SGS Laboratories has issued a certificate of non-toxicity for ProtecSom's Texaal Cotton covers. The seams and zip fasteners have also been tested for harmful substances according to Oekotex Standard 100.

The covers also offer other advantages. They are easy to care for - the covers are washable at up to 60°C, the temperature that kills dust mites. Texaal covers can also be dried in tumble dryers and ironed. The covers are long-lasting - studies carried out by IBT, the US laboratory, show that the Texaal covers maintain the same level of effectiveness against dust-mite allergens, even after more than 100 washes. The covers are also as comfortable as a traditional cotton sheet.

ProtecSom covers are available in a large range of sizes and the company is also able to manufacture custom-made covers. Texaal anti-dust mite covers conform to existing US and European Union norms, and are CE marked.
