Interventional radiology is a dynamic and innovative specialty. In the last ten years new image guided therapies for uterine myomata, infertility, pelvic pain, osteoporosis, and varicose veins have largely been developed. Interventional Radiology in Women's Health, published by Thieme, focuses on women's health and the expanding role of interventional radiology within this pioneering area of medicine.

"It is timely that a book focused on women's health has been written. Advances in women's health and the fact that women are more likely to investigate health alternatives for themselves and their families serve as an impetus for this text," states Robert I. White, Jr., MD, Professor of Diagnostic Radiology, Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven Connecticut.

The book is both a clinical and procedural resource with comprehensive reviews of the major entities treated within this field. Key insights from leading specialists in osteoporosis, obstetrics, gynecology, internal medicine and orthopaedics, along with details on how to treat breast cancer, are included. Every section launches with a clinical review of each condition. Detailed discussions of specific procedures incorporate descriptions of indications, evaluation, techniques, as well as possible complications.

The book aims to assist residents and fellows who are planning careers in interventional radiology and to serve as a resource for gynecologists, primary care physicians, and other providers who want a better understanding of these complicated procedures. For the practicing interventionalist the book's focus on women's health allows them to grow their practices at a time of increasing competition. More importantly, the focus on women's health has changed interventional radiologists from providers of procedural care into providers of medical care.

"With continuing national and international focus on women's health, new advances and new opportunities will come in the future. The topics described in this book provide the foundation for the involvement of interventional radiology in areas of which we are not yet aware," states author Gary P. Siskin, MD, Professor and Chairman, Department of Radiology, Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY.
