LAMAL USA today announced the long-awaited North American launch of DrainPRO™ at the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) conference in Fort Lauderdale, June 8th. A patented, antimicrobial-infused drain insert, DrainPRO™ blocks infection causing bacteria, odors and insects from entering health care and other clean environments.

"We've been waiting a long time for an infection control product as simple and effective as DrainPRO™" said Bernie Lyons, National Risk and Quality Manager with Healthe Care Australia in Sydney. "Drain openings are bacteria hot spots. With the skyrocketing frequency of hospital acquired infections, we have to be sure we're sanitizing every single infection source including drains - especially drains."

Lawrence Evans, DrainPRO's Australian designer added: "Drain openings are a breeding ground for deadly superbugs like MRSA and are a source of foul odors. I designed DrainPRO to seal drains while maximizing water flow. The units are infused with MicrobePRO™ antimicrobial agent and have been tested and certified to be 99.99% effective against a comprehensive range of bacteria."

Since 2007 when the deaths of 6 babies in a Canadian hospital were blamed on Pseudomonas aeruginosa in drains¹, infection control experts have struggled with the problem of sanitizing hospital drains. Harsh chemicals provide a temporary fix but are harmful to the environment. Sealing drains AND killing bacteria without blocking full water flow was Evans' design goal. The result, his patented DrainPRO™, is now being used in Australian hospitals.

DrainPRO™ is part of the MicrobePRO™ suite of infection control solutions manufactured and distributed by LAMAL Group Pty Ltd. headquartered in Brisbane, Australia.
