Main Category: Infectious Diseases / Bacteria / VirusesArticle Date: 14 Jun 2009 - 0:00 PDT
More than 300 infection prevention experts have completed a text that serves as one of the most valuable tools for infection preventionists throughout the world, the APIC Text of Infection Control and Epidemiology. The 1,700-page document, now in its 3rd edition, has been completely revised and is now available, offering a concise information resource containing more than 120 expanded and enhanced chapters.
Published by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the APIC Text contains new chapters addressing infection prevention in ophthalmology, the physician's office and interventional radiology. Each chapter is peer-reviewed and contains an abstract, references, international perspectives and additional resources.
"This was an immense undertaking," said APIC 2009 President Christine J. Nutty, RN, MSN, CIC. "The APIC Text compiles the evidence-based literature in one convenient location and can be used to educate all healthcare personnel on the essentials of infection prevention. It is the definitive, comprehensive, go-to source covering every aspect of infection prevention and control."
The 3rd edition of the APIC Text has been updated to include the most current regulations, guidelines, technology, research and best practices in the field of infection prevention. It also includes specific information for ambulatory care and long-term care facilities, resources for staffing and training and analysis of new technologies. Each chapter focuses on the needs of infection preventionists new to the field and then builds on the basic concepts, providing advanced information for more experienced preventionists.
APIC will release an online version of the APIC Text in the fall of 2009. This electronic version will be updated regularly and accessible anywhere. Purchase of the APIC Text includes a one-year subscription to the APIC Text Online. Visit http://www.apic.org/text for more information.
