In response to a report by the Public Health Commission which says health messages need greater clarity and consistency to help people make the right choices, Chris Sorek, Chief Executive of Drinkaware, says:

"When it comes to messages about health and alcohol in particular, it's important that people have the information they need to make the decisions that are right for them. Alcohol can be enjoyed in moderation as part of a healthy lifestyle, but without even realising, many people drink to harmful levels. Sometimes people struggle to know how much is too much, or even to understand the wider impact alcohol misuse can have on their lives - so the first big step towards tackling alcohol misuse is to make sure people have the facts.

"Drinkaware provides consumers with the information they need to enjoy alcohol as part of a healthy lifestyle - advising men to stick to 3-4 units a day and women to stick to 2-3 units a day to avoid serious health conditions such as liver disease, some cancers and depression. People can keep track of how much they're drinking with the Drinkaware unit calculator by visiting http://www.drinkaware.co.uk/tips-and-tools/drink-diary."
