Diabetes UK has launched a brand new fundraising website called Diabetes Challenge. The fun and interactive site enables anybody to challenge themselves or someone else to raise funds for Diabetes UK by taking on a given challenge.

People can lay down a challenge of their choice, to a person of their choice - so it's easy to get all your friends and family involved. Challenges can be anything from climbing Mount Everest to bathing in baked beans or making a colleague a cuppa everyday for a week - anything goes!

In honour of the site's launch, presenter Dominic Littlewood, who has Type 1 diabetes, is taking on an extraordinary jungle expedition in Thailand next year which he hopes will raise £2,750.

Visitors to Diabetes Challenge can access progress updates on all live challenges, including Dominic's. They can see who's challenging who, what they're doing, who's donating and how much has been raised so far.

Cutting edge website

Diabetes UK wants as many people as possible to follow in Dominic's footsteps by getting involved with Diabetes Challenge. Amanda Neylon, Digital Media Manager at the charity, said: "Diabetes Challenge is a cutting edge website that brings Diabetes UK supporters together in a new way. It allows groups of people across the world to take on new and exciting challenges, and to track each other's progress using social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

"By challenging yourself or someone else you will help to raise vital funds for the three million people in the UK living with diabetes, whilst having loads of fun. And every penny really will count - because one of the best things about Diabetes Challenge is that all the money raised through the site comes straight to Diabetes UK. So join Dominic today and challenge yourself to make a real difference to people with diabetes."

Taking the challenge to jungle

Dominic Littlewood, who has had Type 1 diabetes for 33 years, said: "Ever since I found out about Diabetes UK's overseas challenges, I've wanted to do one. I love a challenge and the new Diabetes Challenge website really is a great way to fundraise for Diabetes UK at the same time as raising the profile of both the charity and diabetes. I've had Type 1 diabetes for 33 years now and it's important for me to show people that diabetes doesn't stop you achieving anything. I also hope that I can inspire a few people to take on their own challenges.

"I'm doing the Thailand Jungle Trek in September 2010. I'll spend six days trekking, rafting, kayaking and riding elephants through the forests and mountains of the Thung Yai Nareusan Wildlife Sanctuary, all in the name of Diabetes UK! I really hope that you can dig deep and help me to raise lots of money."

Diabetes Challenge also provides a focal point for people taking part in marathons, fun runs, overseas challenges and other events on behalf of Diabetes UK. These fundraisers can direct donors to their profiles at Diabetes Challenge, where contributions are commission-free, compared to those charged by intermediary fundraising sites.
