Introducing The AMCP EDossier System: A New System To Support Evidence-Based Formulary Decision Making
Main Category: Pharmacy / PharmacistArticle Date: 07 Oct 2009 - 13:00 PDT
The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) unveiled the AMCP eDossier System in a partnership with Dymaxium Inc. This powerful electronic dossier system promises to revolutionize the way health care professionals access and evaluate information needed to make evidence-based formulary decisions.
The AMCP eDossier System combines the familiar structure of paper-based dossiers with technologies that are flexible and interactive. The new system allows drug formulary decision makers to easily search and filter through the often overwhelming volumes of information within product dossiers and greatly improves the accessibility of critical evidence.
A recent focus group of likely users revealed that eDossiers are among the top three tools that would provide value during the decision making process. When surveyed, the majority of decision makers who use dossiers indicated that they would prefer to receive an eDossier over a paper-based dossier. The same survey revealed that 78% of these professionals want a centralized tool to view and access requested dossiers.
The AMCP eDossier System supports current review processes that have already been substantially standardized by the use of the AMCP Format for Formulary Submissions, initially introduced in 2000. The System directly addresses existing challenges faced by decision makers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and dossier content experts across the U.S. Among several benefits, it:
- Provides the opportunity to more efficiently evaluate critical information needed to determine product value through a free, centralized, secure, web-based platform;
- Supports consideration of scientific evidence in the decision making process; and
- Provides an innovative medium to improve the ongoing use and update of dossiers.
As is the case with paper dossiers based on the AMCP Format for Formulary Submissions, the Academy does not endorse products described in dossiers posted on the AMCP eDossier System, nor does AMCP have control over dossier content. Dossier content is the responsibility of the manufacturer. The Academy is not responsible for any decision that would result from using the information posted on the system.
The AMCP eDossier System will be showcased at the AMCP Educational Conference in San Antonio, Texas, October 7-9, 2009. A pilot program will then be launched with pharmaceutical manufacturers and qualified decision makers who have requested access to select product dossiers. This will be followed by several virtual symposia.
