The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is moving between sides in the health care reform debate as he considers a role in national politics and seeks to appeal to his party's base.

"Jindal, with a likely future as a national GOP figure, has his own balance to strike: offering undecided voters evidence that he has fresh ideas, while reassuring the GOP's base he won't stray from bedrock conservative principles." He has criticized Democratic plans for a health overhaul while maintaining that the system needs reform. Other Republicans have been prompted by Democrats to support the effort, but Jindal has not been included in that group. However, he has maintained a low profile in the Republican opposition to Democratic plans, too (Barrow, 10/12).
