EDGE Medical Devices today announced the commercial release of its flat-panel digital radiography detector and universal retrofit kit. The plasma-based direct conversion technology was pioneered by EDGE and is the culmination of more than ten years of research and development, laboratory and clinical testing. EDGE delivers a high-quality, cost-effective upgrade from analog to digital that addresses market demand for more affordable cassette-less X-ray equipment.

Developed and manufactured by EDGE, the QuixFP-100 Flat Panel Digital Detector with Plasma DR™ Readout Technology provides a cost and performance advantage over Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) Active Matrix Array-based detectors; it does not require the costly and complex manufacturing process used to make TFTs. The detectors are permanently zero-defect, from installation through years of imaging, and offer a full pixel matrix with no dead lines, pixels or pixel clusters.

The detector has regulatory approval and is packaged for OEMs, integrators and VARs as part of the Quix™ universal retrofit kit, which maximizes return on investment by enabling digital upgrades to any new or previously installed equipment. This streamlines installation and minimizes downtime during the transition from analog to digital.

According to EDGE Chairman of the Board, Dr. Uri Geiger, "With the financial backing of Israeli medical device investment firm, Accelmed, EDGE is well-positioned to bring digital radiography to hospitals, clinics and outpatient centers that have previously been unable to afford to upgrade."

"EDGE has fulfilled the promise of delivering a flat-panel medical imaging detector without the inherent cost and reliability drawbacks of active matrix array technologies. EDGE has invented a robust medical imaging platform that breaks through the cost barriers that have made DR unaffordable for the largest segment of the healthcare market," says Dr. Albert Zur, EDGE CEO and President.

About EDGE Medical Devices

EDGE Medical Devices is the developer and manufacturer of Plasma DR™ flat-panel X-ray detector technology for digital radiography. Plasma DR™ offers a price/performance breakthrough by eliminating the complex active matrix array technology used for image readout in other flat-panel detectors. EDGE works with OEMs, Integrators and VARs to bring high quality digital radiography to all diagnostic imaging settings, from private imaging facilities to community hospitals to major medical centers.
