Gordon Brown Gets Serious About Diabetes, UK

Prime Minister Gordon Brown was asked by Jim Dobbin MP at Prime Minister's Questions this week what he was going to do to promote healthy lifestyles, better identify prediabetes and curb the incidence of Type 2 diabetes in the UK.

The Prime Minister said there was a nationwide drive to tackle obesity through such initiatives as the Change4Life campaign. He also mentioned the Government's Risk Assessment Programme for all 40- to 74-year-olds, an initiative Diabetes UK has called for and now welcomes.

High-profile forum for diabetes issues

"This is a fantastic result - it's great to hear the Prime Minister talking about our issues in such a high-profile forum," said Donna Castle, Campaigns Manager at Diabetes UK.

"The Campaigns team will be following up on this, by asking Jim Dobbin MP to sign up to the campaign and be photographed in a 'Get Serious' T-shirt. Who knows, maybe we could even convince the PM himself to sign up."
