AMA President, Dr Andrew Pesce, said today that the Government's revised Medicare rebate for cataract surgery is totally inadequate and will do nothing to ease the anxiety and uncertainty of patients waiting for sight-restoring surgery.
"The Government had a chance to fix this fiasco today but has failed miserably," Dr Pesce said.
"There is only one solution, and that is to restore the Medicare patient rebate to its original level.
"The AMA will be urging the Government to do the right thing by patients when Parliament returns on 16 November.
"The original Medicare rebate must be restored," Dr Pesce said.
