The National Pharmacy Association is working with Women's Institute (WI) Federations and local pharmacists to provide talks to WI members. For 2009/10 the NPA has confirmed talks on the Medicines Use Review service at WI Federation meetings and health events.

Neal Patel NPA Head of Communications said: "We are delighted that WI Federations are taking up the opportunity to speak with their local pharmacist about the Medicine Use Review service. We hope the talks at Women's institutes will encourage more people to go for a Medicines Use Review over the next year. Last year the NPA conducted a survey which showed that about a quarter of people do not take their medicines correctly. The NPA is keen to tackle this issue through engagement with organisations like the Women's Institute."

Around 100 people attended the first "Ask Your Pharmacist" Women's Institute talk in St Albans, Hertfordshire on 28 October. Jean Curl, Hertfordshire WI, said: "The talk was informative, interesting, entertaining and enlightening. The pharmacist gave an overview of where pharmacy was and is now and fielded a whole range of questions of our members. All those that attended thoroughly enjoyed the evening and we would be keen to have another talk next year."

WI Federations who have confirmed participation include: Avon, Bedfordshire, Derbyshire, Dorset, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, Humberside, Norfolk, Staffordshire, Somerset, Surrey, West Midlands and West Yorkshire.
