The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPSGB) welcomes the news that the Crown Prosecution Service will produce new guidelines early in the New Year to stop the automatic criminalization of one off dispensing errors.

It is responding to Chief Pharmaceutical Officer Dr Keith Ridge's letter to the All Party Pharmacy Group which confirms changes to the current regulations next year.

RPSGB President, Steve Churton says; "The Society has been campaigning to change this inappropriate law for some time and we are delighted to hear about this excellent outcome.

I must acknowledge the work that's taken place to lobby politicians, meet with Government departments and to run a parliamentary campaign, supported by members, which resulted in hundreds of MPs supporting an Early Day Motion to change this law.

Through this process I've been truly heartened by the way in which pharmacists have rallied together to fight this cause and this milestone is a testament to everyone who made sure their voice was heard.

I'm pleased that we can now, as a profession, look forward to seeing this interim measure in place early next year."
