Liposuction and Botox(R) Still on Top -

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery is pleased to announce the results of its 2004 Procedural Data. This information is collected by polling the Academy's 1,273 U.S.-based members and for the fifth year in a row, liposuction proved to be the nation's top cosmetic surgical procedure. Botox(R) injections tallied in as being the top non-surgical cosmetic procedure.

These percentages not only provide information regarding the medical disciplines of those practicing these procedures, but the number of years they have been practicing. Furthermore, these percentages also identify the average age of those receiving these cosmetic procedures.

The top four most performed cosmetic surgical procedures in 2004 include: liposuction, blepharoplasty, facelift and forehead lift; while the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedures were Botox(R) injections, Restylane/Hylaform injections, chemical peels and collagen injections.

Other procedures such as lip implants and malar augmentation saw a rise in the number of individuals electing to receive this cosmetic enhancement.

The 2004 Procedural Data is based on a survey of U.S.-based AACS members completed in December 2004. For more information on the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery or the 2004 Procedural Data, please contact AACS at 312.981.6760 or visit the Academy's new web site at http://http://www.cosmeticsurgery.org.

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery is a professional medical society whose members are dedicated to patient safety and physician education in cosmetic surgery. Most members of the AACS are dermatologic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, head and neck surgeons, general surgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, plastic surgeons, or ocular plastic surgeons -- all of whom specialize in cosmetic surgery. AACS is an organization that represents all cosmetic surgeons in the American Medical Association through its seat in the AMA House of Delegates.
