Robert Webster, an influenza expert, says health authorities worldwide need to remain watchful for possible influenza outbreaks, despite swine flu being much less deadly than people had originally feared. Webster, chairman of the virology and molecular biology department at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, says that bird flu remains a possible threat and could be the cause of the next global outbreak.

Last month, WHO (World Health Organization) declared the swine flu (H1N1) pandemic over, after 18,600 reported deaths worldwide - WHO warnings and recommendations had led many to believe we were in for an epidemic which would cost millions of lives. Some prestigious medical journals, as well as leading experts expressed concern that billions of dollars of public money was wasted, with not much achieved except for the pharmaceutical industry's profits. At an influenza conference in Hong Kong (Options for the Control of Influenza VII) a WHO official defended the accusations against it.

According to Robert Webster:

We may think we can relax and influenza is no longer a problem. I want to assure you that that is not the case.

There is a possibility, Webster said, that the next outbreak could emerge from birds (water fowl), which would then be transmitted to pigs, and from pigs to humans. H5N1, a type of flu virus, did just that, and has killed 300 people worldwide so far.

Although bird flu deaths have been dropping over the last few years, they have started to rise in Egypt, Webster added.

H5N1 kills 61% of humans who become infected. Fortunately, human-to-human transmission is not currently possible.

However, Webster warned:

But don't trust it because it could acquire that capacity. So we must stay vigilant.

Avian flu (bird flu) A(H5N1) situation in Europe

According to Egypt's Ministry of Health, a new human case of A(H5N1) avian influenza has been reported and confirmed. A 33-year-old female from Qaluibia governorate developed symptoms on August 17th, was hospitalized 7 days later, where she received oseltamivir treatment - she died on 26th August.

Preliminary investigations indicate the deceased patient was exposed to sick and dead poultry.

The Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratories, a National Influenza Center of the WHO Global Influenza Surveillance Network (GISN), confirmed the woman had A(H5N1) avian influenza infection.

112 laboratory confirmed cases of Avian influenza A(H5N1) infection have been reported in Egypt; 36 of them died.

What is avian influenza (bird flu)?

Bird flu, or avian influenza, is a disease cause by viruses. It is a contagious disease which infects only birds, and sometimes pigs. The avian influenza viruses attack specific species - they have, on occasions jumped the species barrier and infected people. However, this is quite rare.

As far as farmed birds are concerned (poultry), there are two main types of avian influenza - one is fairly mild while the other is deadly (for birds).

The most dangerous strain of the bird flu virus is called H5N1.

Here we go again!

Of course we know bird flu is coming! Just look at the cocktail Flu Vaccines your offering. Can't tell me that with all 3 or 4 viruses in 1 vaccine put into a host isn't going to mutate into something more deadly! Top it off, last year with handing antibiotics out like hot cakes helped with the situation which will be no help when the deadly one arrives. This was very well planned! EXPERIMENT ON INNOCIENT PEOPLE! How disgusting!

Senate bill S510 may prevent you from growing your own food

Just to futher ensure that our immune systems stay compromised, Congress is about to hear SB 510, an alleged food safety bill, which could eliminate organic and small farms, farmer's markets and CSAs, in favor of AgriBusiness genetically modified fake foods.

Scare tactics again

I agree with both the above posts. Last year, my granddaughter was scared witless with all the talk of the flu in schools and on the news, I finally had her get the vaccine (against my better judgment). Common sense went flying out the window. New concept.... wash your hands? Huh? And what happened? Where was the pandemic? Pres BO was NOT going to vaccinate his own kids until someone pointed out to him that it might not be a good idea, seeing as he was pushing it on us...another crisis, unprecidented illnesses, etc! I totally believe the substances that this government insist farmers treat their animals with is backfiring..growth hormones (fat kids), antibiotics (resistance to disease), animal byproducts (mad cow)! Where are we supposed to get good, unadulterated food today? I guess we have to go back to our roots and grow our own. Oh, wait, I think there are laws against raising cows and chickens in the burbs!

Let's scare the people into taking more vaccines

posted by Roland on 7 Sep 2010 at 11:35 am

Whatever happened to allowing the body to develop its own immunity to disease? However, we now have antibiotics in our food supply, along with steroids (Bovine Growth Hormone) in beef, genetically modified crops and fish, and contamination from pesticides and herbicides. We even feed these vegetarian animals beef byproducts that turns them into unwitting cannibals, which could lead to Mad Cow Disease. The EU will not buy our beef, but we feed it to our children in their school lunches.

I begin to wonder how much of the diseases today are man-made (or man induced due to pollution), and how many are natural due to microbes like salmonella and botulism becoming more resistant to antibiotics. AIDS, Morgellons, flu, cancer, etc. might be occurring naturally as the population’s immune system becomes weaker due to toxins in the environment. On the other hand, how many are produced at Fort Dietrich Maryland, CDC, or by the military chemical, biological, and radiological labs?

Chemtrails kill birds

posted by Joe Philadelphia on 7 Sep 2010 at 6:50 am

I am sick of these non disease scares every six months either pushing vaccines or covering up Chem-Trail bird deaths. Will Obama declare a level 6 pandemic again for the birds.
