From 24 April 2006, pharmaceutical manufacturer Lilly UK is withdrawing its HumaJect S and HumaJect M3 pre-filled pens from the market.

Approximately 2,500 people with diabetes currently use the devices in the UK.

HumaJect S and HumaJect M3 pens are pre-filled pens used by patients injecting the following types of insulin:

-- Humulin S
-- Humulin M3

It should be noted that those affected may not have to change insulin - just their delivery system - as both types of insulin will still be available in alternative forms.

Zoe Harrison, Care Advisor at Diabetes UK, said "People with diabetes who are affected by the discontinuation should contact their healthcare team so that they can discuss necessary changes to their insulin management."

Lilly also issued recommendations urging people with diabetes currently using the pens, to consult their diabetes care team. Healthcare professionals have been sent guidelines by the manufacturer.

If you have any other questions or concerns about this, you can also contact Lilly's Diabetes Careline on 01256 315999
