Seven countries have reported human cases of bird flu since 2003. Cambodia, Thailand and Viet Nam have not reported any so far this year. The total number of cases so far is 175, of which 95 have died.

These are confirmed cases. We do not know how many people, who are from remote areas, may have died of bird flu infection without being diagnosed correctly.
The H5N1 Bird Flu virus strain was first detected in Hong Kong in 1997.
