President Bush's recently appointed Supreme Court justices might limit abortion rights, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said on Wednesday at a women's luncheon in Century City, Calif., the Los Angeles Times reports. Feinstein also said that it is "deeply troubling" that South Dakota recently passed a law (HB 1215) that bans abortion in the state except to save a pregnant woman's life. "The time has come for women across America to stand up and fight for what we believe in," Feinstein said. Feinstein is running for re-election against Dick Mountjoy (R), a former state senator, in the November elections. Mountjoy has said that he supports South Dakota's abortion ban, adding, "As a matter of fact, I probably would have been the author. ... I'm not in favor of giving the death penalty to a child just because the parents decide, and I'm not in favor of making the mother God" (Finnegan, Los Angeles Times, 3/23).
