Egyptian authorities have confirmed the country's 13th case of H5N1 infection. Tests from the National Public Health Lab and US Naval Medical Research Unit 3, in Cairo, have come back positive.
The 27-year-old woman is in hospital with bilateral pneumonia. She was hospitalised on May 1. Doctors say her condition is stable.
The woman had recently stayed at a house where infected poultry was present - in the Minufiyah governorate. Several infected chickens were slaughtered during her stay.
The last human case was reported at the beginning of April, 2006.
Of the 13 human cases in Egypt so far, four have died and eight have made a full recovery.
