Suntory has discovered unique properties of whiskey in collaboration with the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine.
According to the presentation made at the 60th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Nutrition and Food Science, the two partners confirmed, in experiments on mice, that whiskey congeners may prevent the development of diabetes.
In particular, antioxidant components of the congeners have properties that lower fasting glucose level and lipid peroxide concentration while improving the insulin-secretory function.
Subsequently, the Company has concluded that an adequate intake of whiskey may prevent the development of diabetes.
