Retailers in San Diego have been told to take a raw milk produced by Organic Pastures of Fresno County off their shelves, say California Department of Food and Agriculture officials. The public has been warned not to consume this milk as it could be contaminated with E coli. The brand is sold locally in San Diego.

If anyone has consumed this milk and develops symptoms, such as diarrhea, he/she should seek medical attention immediately.

Two 8-year-old children, a boy and a girl, tested positive for E coli infection after consuming the milk. They are both from San Diego County. Two other children became ill after consuming the raw milk – they are from San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties.

The owner of Organic Pastures says lab tests have come back negative for E coli.

Raw milk has not been pasteurized or homogenized and has a different taste from treated milk. Consumers of raw milk say treating milk destroys beneficial micro-organisms that are good for digestion.
