How much sleep should we have?

In Japan, researchers found that people who slept for eight hours a day had shorter lives than those who slept just seven hours a day.

How much sleep we should have is a changing mystery. Our grandparents always told us that eight hours sleep every night is the ideal.

This Japanese study followed the sleeping patterns of 100,000 people for ten years. They found that people who slept an average of seven hours a night had longer lives than anyone else.

This earlier study also indicated that you have a shorter life if you sleep for less than six hours a day.
