Swiss look at anti obesity tax
Main Category: Obesity / Weight Loss / FitnessArticle Date: 11 Mar 2004 - 0:00 PDT
As the Swiss population gets fatter their government is considering imposing a tax on sugars and fats.
The population has been steadily increasing in size - that is size per person, they are putting on weight. The government is beginning to become concerned about this.
According to Urs Klemm, Food Safety Swiss Official, a tax on products that tend towards making people fat may have an effect on consumption. He also believes that it would make the food industry change their ingredients.
In Switzerland, the government spends much more money on anti smoking and drinking campaigns than on the promotion of healthy eating habits.
