BVA welcomes the announcement made by Defra last Wednesday to allow low-risk based movements of livestock outside the immediate foot and mouth disease (FMD) affected areas.
BVA President David Catlow commented: "In consultation with the industry, Defra has responded to the difficulties being experienced by many farmers and is looking to allow some low-risk movement of animals to address those concerns.
"This in no way suggests that vigilance for clinical signs of FMD should be relaxed. We are still in a developing disease situation and it is incumbent on everyone to play their part in stamping out this FMD outbreak as quickly as possible."
