Innovative Spinal Technologies, Inc. (IST), quickly emerging as a leading developer of the world's most advanced motion preservation and minimally invasive treatments for spinal disorders, announced the U.S. commercial launch of the Paramount(TM) VBR System for minimally invasive spine (MIS) surgery. The Paramount VBR System received FDA premarket clearance in January 2007. The system has been available in limited release since February 2007 and is now available nationwide through IST's network of sales representatives.

"The introduction of the Paramount VBR complements IST's Paramount Pedicle Screw System perfectly and sets an entirely new standard for minimally invasive procedures," said Scott Schorer, President and CEO of IST. "The introduction of Paramount VBR continues to reinforce our commitment to delivering breakthrough solutions in the areas of minimally invasive motion preservation and fusion."

The Paramount VBR System is leading the next generation in minimally invasive transforaminal implant delivery. The innovative implant inserter design offers an unprecedented level of control and maneuverability for precise implant placement. The comprehensive instrumentation system, combined with a broad selection of bulleted, anatomically correct PEEK-OPTIMA(R) implants, delivers intraoperative versatility and performance at all lumbar levels of the spine.

"The consistent and accurate delivery of the implant with the Paramount VBR System is unlike any other system I have used," said Dr. Ali Araghi of Phoenix, Arizona, who performed the first worldwide surgery of the system. "The delivery instrumentation combined with the advanced implant design, provides excellent load sharing, height restoration and significant volume for graft material within and surrounding the implant.

Dr. Michael Hisey of Denton, Texas, describes the unique implant insertion technique and implant instrumentation as a significant advance. "The novel delivery instrumentation, which provides active turning capability, allows me to place the Paramount VBR implant with precision that I have not been able to achieve with competing systems," Dr. Hisey commented.

Paramount VBR expands the Paramount Lumbar Fusion family of products significantly, providing surgeons the complete suite of products required for highly specialized minimally invasive spinal procedures. With MIS, the potential patient benefits include faster procedures, reduced blood loss, less tissue trauma and scarring, less postoperative pain, and a shorter hospital stay.
